What do people need? Why is there religion? These are the questions that few people fully acknowledge are truly unanswered. People are too afraid to look up and see past the sky. The harsh reality, however, is the fact that there is more past the brilliant azure blue of the sky. But people are fearful of the fact that the universe is, as far as we know, infinite. People are afraid of this because they cannot imagine it. Just like a second, or a fourth dimension, can you imagine looking at something from one angle and it being a solid object to you, but if you walk around it it no longer exists and no longer affects the world? Can you imagine if two people looked at it from two different sides? Would the world crumble down around us? Thinking of things like this are what people are afraid of. The world is based on fear. The universe is based on fear of natural selection. People created guns because they were afraid of other people; animals developed claws and teeth for fear of being by something larger. Think about this: if someone were to overcome all natural fear of everything would they be the absolute and perfect being or would they just a bravely idiotic person? Religion was created out of the fear of being left alone, people did not want to face the fact that after death the world kept on spinning without them; they did not want to face the fact that their entire conscious being, their memories, their feeling would all simply cease to exist. If you told someone in the hospital they were going to die, they would start to panic even if they did not show it. They would not be worried about not ever seeing their friends or the world again, no, they would be afraid of what would happen to them when they died, if they were religious they would start to have second thoughts and start to wonder if the religion they picked was the right one. A non-religious person would be worried about whether they should have been religious. The majority of people are greedy and have a selfish lust for life, and only worry about themselves when they are told they are going to die. The people who think of others when they are told they are going to die are the only truly kind people in the world. But that’s the harsh truth, the world revolves around greed and lust for power and life. If everyone was willing to give their lives for others then where would the world be today? We may not like the truth, but it is the truth nonetheless, and we have to accept it. There are people who take this to extremes and should be taken from society, but the truth is that if all greed, war, and poverty were taken from the world people would have nothing to develop on and the world would stand still. This is the true fear of people, the fear of what they cannot imagine. Imagine something infinite in your mind—you can’t, can you? You can grasp the idea but to fully imagine it is impossible. One would have to think about it for an infinite amount of time, which is clearly not possible. The same goes for Einstein’s idea that, holding a mirror in front of you, would you still be able to see your reflection if you were traveling at the speed of light. Yes you would, because light is always traveling that much faster than you. But how does that work? How does traveling faster bend the laws of the universe? What would happen if you were to go fast enough to no longer be able to see yourself in the mirror? There are things in the universe that people cannot imagine and religions protects us and distracts us from these “things unimaginable” in the same way that telling a child his pet ran away when it really died is an attempt to make them feel better. Religious is not a bad thing, it has helped many people get through their lives and has given many people hope, but we cannot live on lies forever. Eventually that child is going to grow up, and realize that his dog did not simply run away. Eventually that child is going to learn fear is the gear of the universe and the universe is the biological gear for fear, and an infinite blanket of fear turns the world in such a way that he cannot imagine, and he is going to have to accept that. After all, he cannot live on lies forever.
